Harmonic Security has launched MCP Gateway, a developer-friendly, locally installed gateway that provides security teams with complete visibility and control over their organization’s agentic AI ecosystem.

The solution intercepts all MCP (Model Context Protocol) traffic, allowing security teams to discover which clients and servers are in use, enforce granular policies to block risky actions, and apply Harmonic’s sensitive data models to prevent exfiltration of critical intellectual property and other confidential information.

Without proper visibility or controls, sensitive data can move unchecked between AI tools and company systems. MCP is designed to enhance transparency and consistency of this data via an open standard, defining how AI models, such as LLMs, securely interact with external systems, tools, and data sources. By providing a common “language” and framework for connecting AI models to applications, APIs, and company data, MCP enhances security and consistency across the AI ecosystem.

Bryan Woolgar-O’Neil, CTO and co-founder of Harmonic Security, stated: “The rise of agentic AI is creating a new, invisible attack surface within enterprises. The risks go beyond simple data leakage; security leaders now face threats like workflow hijacking via prompt injection, credential theft from rogue servers, and tool poisoning.”

He added, “MCP is a much-needed open standard that will accelerate agentic AI adoption, but security teams need governance over this new workflow channel. Harmonic MCP Gateway addresses this by giving security teams visibility into MCP usage and the ability to implement controls, blocking risky clients or data flows before breaches occur. It shifts teams from reactive alerting to proactive prevention.”

Michael Janielis, Senior Principal, Information Security Architect at Advisor360, a Harmonic customer, commented: “Every security leader I know is trying to get ahead of AI-driven workflows. It’s exciting to see Harmonic tackling this head-on, so teams can confidently innovate safely.”
