Kingston Digital, Inc., the Flash memory affiliate of Kingston Technology Company, Inc. and a global leader in memory products and technology solutions, has announced that its award-winning Kingston IronKey Keypad 200 series (KP200 and KP200C) hardware-encrypted USB flash drives have received NIST FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation (Certificate #5133).
This achievement aligns the KP200 series with Kingston’s IronKey D500S, which already meets this prestigious security standard. With three FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validated USB drive models now available worldwide, Kingston reinforces its commitment to delivering industry-leading, certified data protection solutions.
Designed for Cross-Platform and OT Environments
The KP200 series are OS-independent, keypad-enabled USB drives compatible with Windows®, macOS®, Linux®, ChromeOS™, and even iOS and Android™ devices via USB-A or USB-C® connectors. This versatility makes them well suited for environments where secure, portable storage is required across multiple systems.
These drives are ideal for protecting software and data loaded to or from medical, scientific, industrial, and operational technology (OT) equipment that relies on USB interfaces. In fact, NIST now recommends enhanced USB drive security for OT infrastructure companies through its Special Publication (SP) 1334 guidance.
“The FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certification process by NIST has been the most intensive and time-consuming effort in over a decade,” said Richard Kanadjian, Global Business Manager at Kingston. “Kingston is now the world’s first hardware-encrypted USB drive supplier with three different drive models certified to this de-facto global data security standard.”
Kanadjian added that with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certification, the IronKey KP200 and KP200C drives are exceptional for securing data-at-rest and meeting government and military standards worldwide. As data loss and theft continue to rise, these drives help organizations reduce the risks and costs associated with lost or stolen devices while supporting compliance with regulations such as HIPAA, GDPR, NIS2, CCPA, and other regional data protection standards.
Advanced Security and Management Features
The KP200 series supports dual Admin and User PINs, allowing an alternate access method if one password is forgotten. Administrators can also enable a Global Read-Only Mode until reset, or a Session Read-Only Mode to protect against unauthorized changes or malware when the drive is used on untrusted systems.
Additional features include IP68 certification for dustproof and waterproof protection, making the drives suitable for harsh environments where durability is critical.
Availability and Customization
The KP200 series is available with USB Type-A and USB Type-C connectors, in capacities up to 512GB. Drives can be customized with Co-Logo branding and are backed by a limited three-year warranty with free technical support.
