Nabla, the leading ambient AI assistant for clinicians, has been adopted by McFarland Clinic, Iowa’s largest physician-owned multi-specialty clinic. Following a successful pilot, Nabla is now deployed across 12 specialties to help providers reduce documentation time and improve patient interactions.
Seamlessly integrated with McFarland Clinic’s Epic electronic health record (EHR) system, Nabla is easing administrative burdens for 70 of the clinic’s 360 providers. The AI-driven documentation assistant supports McFarland’s value-based care approach by enabling more time for personalized patient care and less time on administrative tasks.
Nationwide, clinicians spend excessive hours documenting care, with studies showing nearly two hours of EHR work for every hour spent with patients. This not only affects work-life balance but also contributes to increased burnout. Nabla addresses this issue by automating note-taking in real-time, significantly cutting down on after-hours charting—often referred to as “pajama time.”
“At McFarland Clinic, our focus has always been on delivering high-quality, coordinated care,” said Andrew Perry, CEO of McFarland Clinic. “Investing in tools like Nabla is part of our commitment to provider well-being and patient-centered care.”
The initial eight-week pilot showed strong results, with 80% of participating providers choosing to continue using Nabla. Clinicians across various specialties—including family medicine, pediatrics, neurology, cardiology, and more—are now leveraging the AI tool to streamline their workflows. On average, providers are saving up to two hours per day in documentation time.
“Nabla has alleviated an enormous amount of burnout for me,” said Dr. Maria Olberding of McFarland Clinic. “This has allowed me to spend time at home with my family that used to get sucked up by charting. This will allow me to postpone retirement for a few more years.”
To date, McFarland clinicians have generated over 50,000 clinical notes using Nabla. The AI assistant has already supported more than 12 million clinical encounters across over 100 healthcare organizations, and continues to grow in popularity among clinics and health systems focused on improving provider efficiency and patient care.
“McFarland is taking the right steps to protect clinician time and strengthen patient relationships,” said Delphine Groll, co-founder and COO of Nabla. “We’re proud to support a care model that puts people first, beginning with the provider experience.”
